Scale-Based Breakdown (with Wedderburn)

Scale-Based Breakdown improves accuracy, reduces manual data entry, speeds up breakdown processing, and helps ensure consistent and reliable stock records.

Scale-Based Breakdown integrates compatible Wedderburn scales with Supply'd to simplify and improve the accuracy of product breakdowns. As products are weighed during the breakdown process, the scale sends live weight data directly to Supply'd, reducing manual entry and ensuring accurate yield recording.

This helps streamline breakdown workflows, improve stock accuracy, reduce handling errors, and provide more reliable cost and yield tracking.

Before using Integrated Scales, you must:

  1. Have compatible physical scales available - currently Wedderburn scales.

  2. Have the scales connected through the supported scales integration - currently Wedderburn.

  3. Add and configure the scales in your Device Set-Up.

  4. Configure products and breakdown items to use the appropriate scales.

Scales are not directly assigned to individual scanners or devices. Instead, use scales through the dedicated Scales Screen during the breakdown.

This document will guide you though:

Adding Scales to Device Set-Up

1

Click on your company name in the top right and select Settings.

2

Scroll down and select Device Set-up from the Settings menu. The Printers list will open.

3

Go to the Scales tab. Click Add +.

The Add Scale form will open.

4

Complete the form, the click

👉 See the Device Set-Up document for full details.

Enabling Scale-Based Weighing for a Breakdown Product

To use a product with Scale-Based Weighing, scale-based weighing must first be enabled for the product items.

1

Set-Up or Edit the Breakdown Product

Scales can be specified when adding Breakdown Items while Creating a Breakdown Product.

Alternatively, you can edit an existing product by selecting the product, clicking the 3 dots in the top right, and selecting Edit Product. Navigate to the Breakdown Items section.

2

Select the Scale

You can select the scale when adding the item, or for an existing product, click and the Edit Breakdown Items form will open.

In the Scales field, select the scales you would like to use with this product. These scales will be displayed as the recommended scales during the Scale-Based Breakdown process, helping operators identify which scale to use.

3

Enter a Tolerance

In the Tolerance field, specify the acceptable percentage variance from the target quantity or weight. During the breakdown, quantities that fall within the tolerance range are considered acceptable, helping ensure consistency while allowing for minor variations.

For example, if the target weight is 100g and the tolerance is 5% (ie. ±5g), any weight between 95g and 105g will be accepted.

By default, the tolerance range is 10%.

4

Repeat for Each Item

Repeat this process for any other breakdown items.

5

Click Save

Click .

The Scales Screen

Once your Wedderburn scales have been integrated and added to your Device Set-Up, and scale-based weighing has been enabled for the breakdown items, when a breakdown is opened on the Scales Screen, the stage is displayed on the left-hand side of the screen, along with any instructions configured for that stage.

Unlike a production run, a breakdown run consists of a single stage. This is because the entire process of breaking down a source product and recording the yielded products is completed within one workflow, rather than being split across multiple production stages. All source stock selection, weighing, and yield recording is performed within this single stage.

The current user and production timer are displayed in the bottom left of the screen.

Source Stock Screen

In the Source Stock screen, Supply'd will display:

  • The Source Stock name

  • The target quantity Required

  • The live Total number added

  • The Remaining quantity required

Batch details are displayed in the bottom section of the screen, below the Source Stock area.

Once the Source Stock has been added, the Yielded Products screen will show.

Yielded Products Screen

The Yielded Products screen displays the products that the selected Source Stock will be broken down into. From this screen, you can select a yielded product, weigh it using the connected scale, and record the weight produced. As weights are recorded, Supply'd keeps a running total for each yielded product, allowing you to accurately track the outputs from the breakdown.

Performing a Scale-Based Breakdown

Scale-Based Breakdown allows operators to record yielded product weights directly from a connected Wedderburn scale, improving accuracy and reducing manual data entry during the breakdown process.

1

Start the Breakdown

Open the breakdown on the Scales Screen.

The breakdown process is divided into two sections:

  1. Source Stock

  2. Yielded Products

2

Select the Source Stock

First, select the source stock batch and enter the quantity being broken down.

For example:

  • 10 Chicken Carcasses

Once the required quantity has been selected, click .

3

Record Yielded Products

The Yielded Products screen allows you to record the actual weights produced during the breakdown.

To accommodate different butchery and processing workflows, you can either:

Option 1 – Select Product First

  1. Select the yielded product (for example, Chicken Wings).

  2. Click to zero the scale if required.

  3. Place the product on the scale.

  4. Confirm the displayed weight.

  5. Click .

Option 2 – Weigh First

  1. Click to zero the scale if required.

  2. Place the product on the scale.

  3. Select the yielded product (for example, Chicken Wings).

  4. Confirm the displayed weight.

  5. Click .

The recorded weight will be allocated to the selected yielded product.

4

Continue Recording Products

Select the next yielded product and repeat the process until all outputs have been weighed and recorded, remembering to press before adding a new tray or product.

5

Finalise the Breakdown

Once all yielded products have been recorded:

  1. Review the quantities recorded for each breakdown product.

  1. Click to complete the breakdown. You will be asked to confirm.

Click .

Tips

Resetting a Weighing Entry

If an incorrect quantity is accidentally recorded:

  1. Select the yielded product.

  2. Press .

This clears the recorded quantity allowing the product to be weighed again.

Pausing Breakdowns

To pause a breakdown:

  1. Tap the timer beside your name.

To continue:

  1. Return to the breakdown.

  2. Click .

Reopening an Incomplete Breakdown

If the Scales Screen is closed during a breakdown:

  • All recorded weights remain saved.

  • The breakdown reopens exactly as it was left.

  • Previously recorded weights remain visible and editable.

This allows operators to continue the breakdown without losing progress.

Use Tare as Needed

Click Tare whenever you need to zero the scale before weighing a new container/tray or product.
