# Updating Customers in Bulk
Bulk importing customers in Supply’d saves time, ensures accuracy, and reduces manual errors, streamlining customer management.
**Bulk Updating Customers** allows you to update information for multiple customers at once using a CSV spreadsheet, rather than editing each customer individually. This provides a quick and efficient way to maintain customer records and make changes across a large number of customers.
This document explains how to prepare the CSV and import your customer updates into Supply’d.

### Bulk Import/Add Customers

#### Open the Import Customers Form
1. Select **Customers** from the menu.
2. Click on the 3 dots on the top right corner
3. Select **Import** then **Customers**.
The **Import Customers** form will open.

#### Download Template
Click on the **Download the template** link to get our base template.
The **Export Customers** form will open.

#### Select Your Data
**Data Source**
Select **Supply'd** from the menu to export your existing customer data as the basis for your bulk update.
**Fields**
Select the type of data would you like to include in the export by ticking the relevant boxes.

The more options you select in the **Fields** section, the more data fields will be included in the spreadsheet.

Click to save the template to your computer.

#### Remove Unwanted Columns
Open the CSV in **Excel** or **Numbers**. Remove all unnecessary columns from the CSV, keeping only the specific fields you wish to change (eg. Price or Category).

When bulk updating existing customers in Supply'd via a CSV file, following a "lean" approach is recommended to prevent data loss or operational disruption. Keeping only the fields you want to change makes the import easier to manage, reduces processing time, and minimises the risk of unintentionally changing other customer information.
For example, if you only want to update a customer’s **Name** and **Email Address**, keep the **Customer ID**, **Name**, and **Email Address** columns and remove the other fields from the CSV. Any fields that are removed from the CSV will not be changed during the import.
**Important:** Keep the **ID** column for every product you want to modify. The **Product ID** identifies the specific product that Supply’d should update.
**Why This Method is Best Practice**
* **Avoids User Conflicts:** Helps prevent changes from interfering with team members editing the same customers.
* **Prevents Data Deletion:** Leaving unnecessary fields blank can cause existing data to be cleared.
* **Improves Efficiency:** A smaller CSV reduces processing time and the risk of import errors.
Keeping only the fields you need ensures the import is focused and reduces unintended changes.

**Important:** The title row should remain in the document in order for the system to match the columns when imported.

#### Complete the Template
Enter the information you want to update, and follow the guidance in the following documents for completing the various fields in each template.

* Follow the column headings carefully.
* Do not change column names.
* Leave **Customer Number** fields blank for new records.
* Delete any sample data before importing.
* Double-check that all required fields are filled out correctly before uploading.

#### Export/Save the File
Once you have completed filling out the spreadsheet, ensure that you save or export it as a CSV file as this format is required for successful import into Supply’d.

#### Upload the File
On the **Customers** page, click on the 3 dots in the top right and select **Import**, then **Customers**.
The **Import Customers** form will open.
In the **Upload CSV File** field, click on to select the CSV file you just completed.

After selecting the file please ensure you wait for the file to successfully upload before clicking Import.

In the **Update Existing Customers** field, select **Yes** to update your existing customers.
